The VZ V6 Commodores are renowned for defective timing chains. That dreaded rattle at idle or a random check engine light could be the tell-tale signs that the factory chains have stretched. Prolonging the replacement of these chains could potentially lead to severe engine damage including bent valves, damaged pistons or worst case, an engine replacement.

Here at Mace Engineering we're dedicated to providing exceptional service and quality parts, therefore we have used our sought after engineering expertise to develop a kit using components of high calibre. This way we can ensure our customers are receiving the most reliable timing chain kit on the market. Our aftermarket chains possess enhanced durability and strength characteristics to comfortably take the shock loading of everyday driving while our superior guides and tensioners firmly hold them in place. As such, these kits are backed up by an industry leading 3 year/100,000km product warranty for kits with gears. A 12 month product warranty applies to kits without gears.

Contents:

  • 3 improved production timing chains
  • 3 heavy duty timing chain tensioners
  • 6 precision diecast timing chain guides
  • Premium timing cover gasket kit
  • 3 idler gears

VEHICLE FITMENT GUIDE

There may be a discrepancy for vehicles built on dates that borderline the change-over of the design of the timing chain. We cannot guarantee what kit you require if this applies to your vehicle. You can confirm by removing one of the cam covers and inspecting the chains that run over the cam gears.

We also sell most V6 Alloytec and SIDI related gaskets and replacement parts. These are available in other listings. Here is a list of some of the more popular ones:

  • Cam alignment tools (CAM625)
  • Timing chain service gasket kit to suit LY7 & LE0 Alloytec (GSK637)
  • Timing chain service gasket kit to suit LLT LF1 LFX LFW SIDI (GSK647)
  • VRS Top end gasket to suit Alloytec 3.6L V6 (GSK614)
  • Bottom end gasket to suit Alloytec 3.6L V6 (GSK615)
  • Rocker cover gasket kit to suit high feature Alloytec LY7 LEO 3.6L V6 (GSK622)
  • Rocker cover gasket kit to suit SIDI LLT LFX LF1 (GSK626)
  • Upper & lower inlet manifold gaskets to suit Alloytec 3.6L V6 (GSK624)
  • Upper inlet manifold gasket to suit Alloytec 3.6L V6 (GSK627)
  • Lower inlet manifold gasket to suit Alloytec 3.6L V6 (GSK630)
  • Oil pump kit to suit LE0 LY7 Alloytec & LFX LLT LFW LF1 SIDI (OIL608)

Kindly note:

If you plan on replacing the lower timing chain guide, we recommend replacing the oil pump which includes a replacement guide already assembled to the pump.

We have found with previous customer setups that the lower oil pump guide included in our kit is not always compatible. If this is the case, then the factory guide can be left in place or the oil pump can be replaced with one of ours.

These kits do not include VVT (VCT) cam gears, rocker cover gasket and plenum/inlet gaskets.

Caution:

Once assembled, the timing chain tensioners need to be fully released to maintain adequate tension. Simply pulling the pins is not enough. All tensioners must be pressed in by hand for the internal mechanism to fully pop out and operate effectively. Following this, the motor is to be rotated by hand one full revolution in a clockwise direction to ensure all parts have been fitted correctly. Failing to follow these steps will result in a noisy timing chain upon start up and will require the motor to be disassembled again to access the tensioners.

Please contact us if you require a detailed fitting guide.

Note: If you require a timing chain kit without gears (TC603), you can find it in our other listings.

Nissan to launch plug-in hybrid & develop fuel cells with Mercedes

Mon, 24 Oct 2011

Nissan Renault & Mercedes working on 'Green' technology We have been a bit scathing about electric cars, and Nissan’s over-priced LEAF being proclaimed as a viable alternative to the ICE car. But we certainly understand the imperative for car makers to build cars which produce less CO2 (a highly dubious requirement) and use far less fuel (a very solid requirement). Sensibly, Nissan Renault, under Carlos Ghosn, aren’t putting all their eggs in one basket in the quest to make their cars cleaner, greener and more economical.

BMW M3 engine shown

Fri, 23 Mar 2007

By Ben Barry Motor Industry 23 March 2007 01:18 BMW has revealed detailed specs on the all-new 4.0-litre V8 that’s soon to be slotted into the all-new M3. Power is confirmed at 420bhp with 295lb ft peak torque available from 3000 to 7000rpm. The engine – made at the same foundry as the BMW Sauber F1 team’s V8 and derived from the same architecture as the M5 and M6 V10 – looks set to dispel any fears M purists may have had that the M3 would be transformed into a nose heavy, slow revving behemoth.

Saab 9-3 restarts production in Trollh

Thu, 19 Sep 2013

Would you look at that? They started building Saabs again. A bright future, perhaps, for the Sick Carmaker Of Europe, who after its excision from General Motors and dalliances with the Swedish government and the Dutch, was snapped up by an Asian conglomerate billing itself as National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS).
